Bethany: You're saying that having beliefs is a bad thing? Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. -Dogma
Pure water falls out of the sky here. It's so perfect it's stupid. But that's just the
way things grow when left to nature; without the meddling of lesser beings. We have
given ourselves power over nature; taken the sword to the queen, pinning her down
with it's blade. And every day drawing the blade closer, slowly and slowly closer every
day, to the ladies throat.
For she is billions of years old, she has a deep knowledge that we cannot touch. There is
so much truth to be found in her. And we think she makes poorer judgements than that of
an individual man, given some "ultimate power" for a while. But that power is illusury. It
depends upon the agreement and operations of hoards and hoards of men and women
blindly obeying its every command, going it unfaillingly to their very demise.

"To the dull mind all of nature is leaden. To the illuminated mind the whole world sparkles with light." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Heaven walks among us ordinarily muffled in such triple or tenfold disguises that the wisest are deceived and no one suspects the days to be gods."

Can order come from chaos? Over and over we see ordered complexity emerging from simpler and more chaotic states. Is it so hard to imagine that life emerged from non-life? Intelligence from non-intelligence. Consciousness from unconsciousness?
Is our universe the only one? Or are there many other universes beyond our view. Is the universe infinite?
It seems as though we always assume the horizon of our vision and understanding is the true edge of existence. We used to think if we sailed out beyond the horizon we would fall off the edge of the earth. Then we thought the earth was the center of the universe and the rest was just window dressing. Then we discovered we were in a huge galaxy with billions of stars. And again, we discovered that our galaxy is only one of billions in the visible universe. But stil our "Universe" is limited by the tools of observation we have. Perhaps as we develop better tools we will discover that the universe is just one of billions. Or, perhaps that the universe is infinite; stretching out throughout all time, or continuously fracturing into mini universes like a cosmic russian doll.
Until we do develop better tools though, there's no way to really know. But isn't it incredible to ponder? I mean, if the universe is infinite, then that means that all possible variations on universes exist. One exactly like our own, except perhaps that you chose not to brush your teeth this morning, as well as those more radically different than we can possibly imagine.
